3 Ways to Raise a Smile … and Make More Money in Your Business

More Money in Your Business

Happy customers are loyal customers, so it follows that if you can make the experience of engaging with your business more entertaining, you’ll also see revenues rise over time. The same goes for employees; a workforce that’s in good spirits is more motivated and productive.

Knowing this is not enough on its own, of course, so here are some actionable strategies to add humor to your operations, winning more business and boosting team morale with the power of fun.

Have a Funny Tip Jar (for Cafes, Restaurants, Bars, and More)

The hospitality industry requires a lot of face-time with customers throughout the day, and while tipping culture can be controversial, it’s a reality of the ecosystem for the time being.

It’s also perfectly reasonable to allow people to express their satisfaction with the experience they’ve had by giving a little extra when it’s time to pay.

This is where having a funny tip jar can pay dividends, as if it grabs the customer’s attention and gives them a chuckle, they’ll be more compelled to reach in their pockets.

There are some tried-and-true tip jar ideas you can follow, such as adding a pun to the label, or even simply drawing a doodle or a smiley face. It’s all about giving your tip jar a bit of personality, and not just making it a bald faced request for more cash.

Inject Humor into Email Campaigns

Another area where you’ve got the opportunity to give customers a giggle, or at least soften the edges of an otherwise perfunctory interaction, is with your email marketing efforts.

Regardless of the industry you occupy, having a carefully crafted email marketing strategy will stand you in good stead, and humor can be a useful tool for breaking the ice and making recipients feel less like they’re being sold to, and more like they’re getting a unique opportunity to buy into your brand.

Various newcomers to the market have even managed to carve a niche that’s entirely based on making people laugh, whether that’s the likes of personal grooming brand Manscaped, or even established entities trying to reframe their brand image, like Old Spice.

You don’t have to use wacky wording throughout a message to achieve your aims here; knowing when to be sparing with gags is just as important as including them in the first place.

Test any changes to tone to see if they click with customers before rolling them out broadly.

Make a Splash on Social Media

Getting a grip on social networking sites is one of the things that all budding entrepreneurs need to do. And humor has proven to be an alluring aspect of brand identity on sites and platforms as diverse as Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok.

For some reason it’s fast food chains that have managed to make best use of humor on social media, with interactions from the likes of Wendy’s and KFC managing to go viral.

And the intriguing thing about many of these instances is that they don’t always come out of some long-planned campaign, but rather as the result of a spur of the moment post made by an experienced member of the marketing team.

This shows that sometimes you don’t need to overthink your brand-building efforts if you want to get positive results.

Please Share This Post.

The other side of the coin is that social media does leave room for snafus to occur, and while big corporations might be able to recover, small brands don’t have the same luxury, so care is needed in this context.

Final Thoughts

The point here is that the humor you use in email marketing should be brand-appropriate. If what you’re selling isn’t really suitable for cracking wise, don’t feel you have to take this route.

There are also gradients of humor, from very gentle and family-friendly to a more in-your-face approach which may or may not fit in with the personality you’re seeking to convey.

Don’t be afraid to experiment, and do remember to research how rivals are using humor if you’re unsure of how to proceed. You might be surprised by what new angle you’ll discover this way.

Why Is Meditation Important? 6 Facts You Need to Know

Why Is Meditation Important

Mention meditation in conversation to anyone that hasn’t tried it or understands what it is, and you can often get a blank look and a quick change of subject. This is because some still believe that the only people who practice mediation are free-living hippies.

We know, of course, that this couldn’t be further from the truth.

There isn’t anything new or unusual about practicing mediation. Many cultures have been practicing meditation and mindfulness for centuries, and these ancient calming and grounding practices could be precisely what is missing from modern life.

Many people believe that meditation is a spiritual practice associated with Buddhism. Still, in reality, it is a valuable tool for anyone looking to calm their mind, lower stress and anxiety levels, and generally improve their mental health, self-awareness and relationships with others.

People also think that meditation is difficult to learn and maintain, especially when they believe they are too time-poor for it to be possible to practice.

Again, this isn’t the case, and even the most tightly scheduled person can successfully learn to adopt meditation techniques that can help reduce their stress levels.

Here we look at six facts about meditation that will help you understand just how beneficial it is to have in your life.

6 Facts about Meditation

1. The Benefits of Meditation Work Fast

We all know how frustrating it can be when we start working out at the gym, knowing it may be many weeks, if not months before we begin to see the results we want. However, meditation’s many health benefits can be felt immediately after you start practicing.

The sense of calm and peace of mind you get from meditation can be felt quickly. The more you practice meditation, the longer the calming effects can last.

The mind is very elastic, so learning new meditation techniques builds resilience, and before you know it, you will benefit from a peaceful and calm mind every day.

2. Meditation Helps You Manage Stress, Anxiety and Depression

The mental health benefits of meditation cannot be denied. People of all ages and backgrounds successfully use meditation to address and manage stress-related health issues such as anxiety and depression.

This is because meditation has positive physiological effects on the brain. Practicing meditation helps to regulate the part of the brain that controls your anxiety and stress levels.

By tuning your mind away from worrying thoughts and towards your breathing and moment-by-moment experiences, you are changing your thinking patterns and reactions to stressful thoughts into moments of calm, reason and sound logic.

3. Better Quality Sleep

When you are stressed and anxious, it can be challenging to fall asleep. Many people have insomnia caused by their racing, worried mind and seemingly endless anxious thoughts crowding their heads.

Meditation removes long-held fatigue caused by chronic sleep deprivation. It can help clear and calm your mind, allowing you to fall asleep quicker and sleep more deeply, so you wake up refreshed and full of energy. Just before you go to sleep at night is the perfect time to practice meditation.

4. Meditation Improves Your Mood

Those who meditate regularly tend to live happier lives than those who don’t.

Meditation enhances positive energy flow through your body and mind, which helps to quiet anxious thoughts and promote feel-good emotions, making you a much happier person and more of a pleasure to be around.

Research conducted with Buddhist monks shows that their pre-frontal cortex, the part of the brain that is associated with happiness, was extra active while meditating.

5. Improved Memory and Information Retention

It has long been proven that practicing meditation is a fantastic way to improve your memory and sharpen your mind.

We now know that learning new things is the key to keeping our minds active as we get older.

Learning new meditation techniques and practicing mindfulness helps to boost your cognitive function and your ability to retain and recall important information.

This is why meditation has so many benefits for people of all ages, from students studying for exams and executives giving presentations, to retirees learning a new hobby or craft and more.

6. Meditation Isn’t Religious

Meditation is open to people of all beliefs and isn’t restricted to the practice of Buddhism alone.

In fact, meditation goes beyond doctrine and focuses on your inner self, developing a calm, peaceful mind with no religious association or connotations.

After reading these six facts about meditation, it may be hard for you to find a reason not to try it out for yourself.

Even if you start with a few short minutes at night before you go to sleep, you will soon begin to reap the many benefits that meditation offers – and what’s more, meditation is free! What more could you ask for?

Why Willpower and Discipline Are Essential Ingredients for Carrying Out Resolutions

Carrying Out Resolutions

Willpower and self-discipline are essential ingredients in following through with your resolutions and carrying them out.

We all make new resolutions almost every day, but do we carry them out? In most cases we don’t.

Resolutions are meaningless words, unless you stick with them, and do everything to carry them out.

Do You Make Emotional Resolutions?

Most people make emotional resolutions, on the spur of the moment, without thinking whether they really want to commit themselves to this or that resolution. They don’t think what carrying out the resolution entails, and what could be the consequences.

Sometimes, a sudden desire arises in us to do something, change our behavior or achieve a certain goal. This desire arises in response to a certain situation or event, and is not something we thought about deliberately.

We might see a movie, read a book, listen to a lecture, or hear about someone’s success story, and this prompts us to make a certain resolution, to achieve what we have read, heard or seen.

We often make promises to ourselves based on emotions, without using common sense and considering our real needs. Such resolutions do not last long.

Sometimes, we might start enthusiastically doing something about those decisions. The problem is that after a while, the enthusiasm fades away, and we quit what we have started doing.

These emotional resolutions might relate to losing weight, changing habits, changing our life style, exercising or following a certain goal.

Resolutions made in response to emotional triggers are often short-lived.

If you wish to carry out your resolutions you need willpower, self-discipline and perseverance to back them up.

Making resolutions, such as New Year resolutions, is often an emotional act. Such resolutions, if made without thinking and deliberation, do not last long.

We often make resolutions and promises, and then try to change our behavior accordingly.

At times, we might begin to study, look for a job, seek a partner, or try to work out or lose weight. We might start carrying out our resolutions, but this goes on only for a short while.

Please Share This Post.

We start with much noise, but end in silence. We make resolutions enthusiastically and optimistically, but then we lose our enthusiasm and stop doing what we promised ourselves to do.

This kind of behavior shows lack of willpower and discipline, and makes us lose faith in our ability to follow our resolutions and promises.

Feelings, Emotions and Resolutions

The driving powers of most resolutions are feelings and emotions, but feelings and emotions are not stable and not constant.

One moment you might feel you can conquer the world, and a moment later you feel weak, lazy and lacking motivation. At such moments, you feel that your resolution is impossible to achieve.

A resolution made on the spur of the moment is usually useless and is often forgotten.

The emotion that triggered the resolution might disappear a short while later, and there will be no desire left to carry on with the resolution.

Often, there is inner resistance and the reluctancy to get out of one’s comfort zone.

Another important point I would like to mention is that subconscious habits are stronger than resolutions. They can overcome any decision and desire for change.

Lack of enough motivation, and the inability to persevere, might lead you to believe that you lack willpower and backbone. However, this is not true, since the decision you made was not really important for you or not right for you. It was just a passing desire.

At other times, it’s really the lack of inner strength and perseverance that stand in your way. You don’t have the inner strength to stick with your resolution. In this case, you need a way to boost your inner strength, stickiness and perseverance.

Often, resolutions do not involve any willpower followed by perseverance, but only temporary emotions and whims. This is not enough to go through with decisions, plans and goals.

Why Willpower and Discipline are Essential for Making Resolutions

Real willpower and self-discipline are not dependent on passing feelings, emotions, or temporary enthusiasm and optimism.

Regular training of your willpower and self-discipline results in attaining real power, which would always be available for you to use. Then, you will be able to back up and follow any resolution you make.

You will not quit what you start doing, you will achieve results, and enjoy the happiness and satisfaction that ensues.

Willpower and self-discipline are like a master key, which you can use to open the doors leading to fulfillment, satisfaction and achievement.

If you are willing and ready to devote the necessary time to develop and strengthen your willpower and self-discipline, you will be highly rewarded. How far you will go depends on how much time, effort and earnestness you are willing to invest in this project.

Carrying out Resolutions Takes Time

Nowadays, people want immediate results. They lack the patience and the perseverance to follow their resolutions. However, every achievement in life, and every important skill you set out to develop, require patience and perseverance.

Do you want to make emotional resolutions, which you will not follow, and then get disappointed, or make real and well-thought resolutions, and follow them through?

To achieve results, you need to think well before making a resolution. You need to ascertain that it is something you really and truly want, and that you are willing to spend on it time, energy, and money, if necessary.

It’s also good to think of all the pros and cons of carrying out your decision and resolve, before making them. Then, your chances to continue without quitting would be greater.

Don’t be impatient, desiring to get immediate results. You can carry out minor and not so important decisions quite fast. However, bigger, and more important resolutions need time, and therefore, patience.

You Need to Commit to Your Resolution

After making a resolution you need to commit yourself to carry out this resolution. And this commitment should be real, not just words.

Yes, it’s tough, and you might lose your enthusiasm and interest. However, if you thought well before making the resolution, chances are good that you will continue with it.

If you make one resolution after another, and break each one after a while, you will teach your mind not to believe you. You will expect that would abandon your resolutions, and anticipate failure.

You need stickiness, resolution, confidence, and faith in yourself. You gain these traits of character by strengthening your willpower and self-discipline. This an option open for everyone.

It’s not so difficult to develop these two skills. If you are earnest about getting these skills, I recommend that you read my book Build up Strong Willpower and Self Discipline, where you can find all the guidance and advice you need, together with simple, but powerful exercises.

6 Rules to Remember When Writing a Book in a Plagiarism-Free Way

Writing a Book

Plagiarism issues occur when a writer uses already published content without acknowledgment of the original author. Sometimes, writers don’t copy other people’s work deliberately. It just happens that their ideas are parallel to those shared by other content creators.

Whichever may be the case, plagiarism can lead to legal consequences. It’s important to understand the techniques that help avoid these situations.

In this article, we are going to explore some simple methods to make sure your work is hundred percent authentic. Follow these tips, and you’ll never have to worry about plagiarism again!

Use Citations When You Borrow from Other Writers

It’s almost impossible to write any piece of work without using other people’s ideas or findings. It’s perfectly OK to use already published content to support a certain statement or create an argumentative discussion.

In this case, you should list the sources you used in your work and acknowledge those authors whose work propelled your content.

Use Plagiarism Checking Tools

Numerous software solutions provide help for writers in different aspects of the content writing process. Some help to improve writing skills, others allow stylistic improvements, and many grammar and plagiarism checker tools help detect authenticity issues.

These tools are easy to use and save writers a lot of time that they would otherwise spend if they were to check their work manually. The best plagiarism checkers allow you to upload your entire work and provide results in a matter of minutes.

It’s best if you use a plagiarism checker in stages, meaning each time you complete a portion of your work, run it through the software. This way you will prevent dealing with numerous plagiarism issues at the same time when you complete your first draft.

Rephrase Pieces of Content

There are times when certain pieces of content align with the work someone else already wrote. This doesn’t have to mean you stole someone else’s intellectual property, it could be that you accidentally phrased your thoughts as someone before you.

In these situations, it’s best to rephrase your content if you don’t have the time to write an entirely different take on the point you’re trying to convey to your readers.

Make thorough Preparations

Research is the foundation of every good book or any other piece of literature for that matter. The best writers spend years exploring a certain topic, traveling to authentic locations, or interviewing different people to gather enough writing material.

Sometimes, short deadlines cause writers to expedite their research process, so they have to lean on already processed materials and other people’s work.

If your research process is constrained by a short deadline or lack of resources, you can rely on the internet to provide you with the information you need.

Please Share This Post.

Take as much time as you need to collect enough data and draw inspiration for your work. That is the most effective way to create a unique piece of work on any given topic.

Read through Related Content

Explore other authors that wrote on topics that you’re interested in covering. This will provide you with a source of inspiration and help you write authentically.

Reading through already published content that explores the same ideas as you, lets you avoid writing something that’s already out there. You can also use other people’s work as inspiration by making your spin-off or a flip side of a certain idea or topic.

Don’t hesitate to read through work published in other countries. Plagiarism issues have an international aspect, it doesn’t matter which language you’re using to write your work.

Allow Others to Review Your Work

Sometimes it takes a human touch to detect potential plagiarism issues in your work.

It’s not a bad idea to share your work with your editor or friends that you trust. They could read through your work and potentially identify those portions of your work that might cause authenticity problems.
If you are afraid about protecting your intellectual property, you can send portions of content to different people.

Apart from plagiarism issues, having someone inspecting your work before publishing helps resolve stylistic, continuity, or plot hole concerns. In other words, not only would you have a unique piece of work, you’ll get improvement suggestions also.

These pieces of advice should help you build authentic content every time. Creativity is only one segment of the writing process.

As we can see, there are many matters to take care of before we think about publishing or even start writing a book.

Hopefully, these tips will make your work easier and your content better than before.

Success Skills: How to Get a University Degree

University Degree

While most of the richest people in the world are school dropouts, it doesn’t mean that you should follow the same path to achieve your goals. Having a college degree increases the chances of landing your dream job and advancing your career.

To get good grades and a college degree, you’ll need to invest a lot of time and energy in your studies. This means attending all classes, working on your assignments and submitting them on time, revising for exams, and seeking help from experts when you need it.

Getting a university degree can seem like an impossible goal especially when you are in college. However, it’s not as hard as you think.

Here are a few tips that will help you get a university degree and achieve your goals.

Tips to Help You Get a University Degree

1. Attend All Classes or Lectures

While some classes and tutors are more interesting than others, attending all classes and lectures will pay off in spades in the long run.

Attending lectures including the boring ones will help you have an easy time studying as you’ll understand the course material at a deeper level.

The lecturer will share with you some of the best tips and tricks that you can use to study and improve your grades.

Lectures are the foundation of your course material. This means that when you start studying, you’ll minimize revision time instead of learning everything from scratch.

Seminars are important especially when it comes to clarifying some aspects of your course that you have a hard time understanding.

2. Seek Help from Tutors

Going the extra mile to know your tutors can be the difference between getting good grades plus a university degree and not.

There are different ways to communicate with your professors. Most professors have office hours which they’ll tell you about at the beginning of the semester. During office hours, you can visit them and ask for clarification especially if you are struggling with something.

You can also follow them after class to get more clarification and read an example. Don’t be afraid to seek help from your tutors because they want the best for you.

Please Share This Post.

3. Originality Is Key

As you study at the university, you’ll be required to write essays to get good grades. Writing a good essay takes a lot of time and energy. However, the payoff will be huge in the long run.

Writing an essay involves in-depth research, writing, and proofreading. The best essays usually contain sources from different places such as books, journals, and archives. Most students copy other peoples’ works and use their arguments. This is wrong.

Plagiarism is the act of copying another person’s work and presenting it as your own. It has serious consequences such as loss of marks, cancellation of papers, or worse, suspension. You need to read social issues examples to get inspired, present your original work and acknowledge all the sources that you used during the research process.

If you can’t write a good research paper, you should consider seeking help from experts. There are a lot of experts in the online world who will help young people and students to have college success at an affordable price.

4. Stay Organized

To manage your time effectively, you need to be organized. Being organized involves understanding the structure of your modules. Find out whether they have exams or require group work.

Knowing what to expect in advance will help you avoid missing deadlines. Keep all your assignments in one folder. In your study room, eliminate any physical book, paper, or article that you can find online. Being organized will save you a lot of time and energy in the long run.

5. Get Enough Sleep

For your brain and body to function optimally, you need to rest. Various research studies have linked quality sleep to increased focus, a strong immune system, and emotional stability.

You don’t have to pull all-nighters to get good grades and a college degree.

Managing your time effectively and getting enough sleep are all you need to succeed not only in college but also in your career.

Getting into college and getting good grades is not a walk in the park. You’ll need to invest a lot of time and energy in the process to achieve your goals. You’ll need to attend all classes, revise for your exams, work on your assignments, and complete them on the time.

While all these may look complex, succeeding in college is not impossible. All you have to do is manage your time effectively and take good care of yourself.

Taking care of yourself involves exercising regularly, eating the right foods, and getting enough sleep. When things get difficult, don’t hesitate to seek help from experts.

Discover How to Protect Yourself from Negative Emotional Involvement

Negative Emotional Involvement

How to protect yourself from negative emotional involvement?

Why you need to protect yourself?

Read on, and find simple tips that would upgrade your life.

The emotions of the people that we come across in our everyday life, affect us in many ways. If these are positive emotions we feel inspired and motivated. However, not all emotions are positive.

Many of the emotions that people experience are negative, unpleasant and distressing, and therefore, can impact us in a disturbing, agitating and a bad way.

Getting involved with other people’s negative and unhappy emotions can affect our mood, state of mind and behavior, and lead to undesirable reactions.

How and When Emotional Involvement Affects Us

The bad mood and state of mind of our boss can affect the quality of our work, our focus, and our feelings.

Angry and stressed people unconsciously, transfer their anger and stress to other people in their close vicinity.

This anger and stress can affect us adversely, if we are not careful enough.

Just think, how many times emotional involvement with people’s sad stories and problems have caused you to feel bad and depressed?

How many times have you felt stressed and unhappy in the proximity of stressed and unhappy people?

Other people’s emotions and unhappy feelings affect our feelings, state of mind and behavior. They affect how we react and how we behave.

You Can Avoid Negative, Disruptive Emotional Involvement

You can set yourself free from negative emotional involvement. This, of course, requires some inner work and effort on your part. However, any effort and time you spend on this project is time well-spent.

Please Share This Post.

Avoiding negative emotional involvement and taking care of your mental and emotional health is the theme and topic of my book Emotional Detachment for Happier Life.

In this book, I have shared guidance, advice and techniques on how to protect yourself from unnecessary and unhealthy emotional involvement.

You can also find in this book information about emotional detachment and its benefits, and guidance on how you can develop it.

I am referring to positive emotional detachment, which leads to inner calmness, inner peace and happiness.

The emotional detachment I am referring to has nothing to do with keeping away from other people, avoiding people or not expressing feelings.

It’s about building a protective emotional barrier against stressful, manipulative and unhappy people.

It’s also about learning to avoid getting involved with your own negative emotions and refusing to let them occupy your mind and attention.. When you can learn to keep an emotional distance from your negative emotions, problems and unhappy memories, you start enjoying inner peace and happiness.

Following even just part of the advice and exercises would increase your ability to stay calm, and protect yourself from stressful people, stressful thoughts, emotional manipulation and unhappiness.

Tips to Protect Yourself from Negative Emotional Involvement

Here are a few tips to help you avoid getting involved and affected by stressful and negative emotions:

1. Stressful People and Stressful Situations

If you can, always stay away from stressful people and stressful situations. This might not always be possible, but when possible do so.

Stress is contagious and its affects are not healthy. Staying away from it is a wise decision.

2. Reduce the Time Listening and Watching the News

There is no reason why you should listen to every new bulletin on the radio or TV, or keep reading the News on the Internet or Social Media.

A great part of the News is negative, and it serves no purpose getting your emotions aroused and getting into unnecessary stress.

Listening to the News or watching them, are not going to change them, or change the world. So why let them affect how you feel?

3. You Are Responsible for Your Thoughts and Feelings

Always remind yourself that you are the one who chooses your thoughts and feelings.

Always remind yourself that you are the one responsible for shaping your state of mind, not the outside world.

4. Avoid Getting Emotionally Involved with Other People’s Stories

There are people who enjoy sharing and speaking about their problems with anybody who cares to listen. This is most exhausting and tiring.

If you can help them, do so with action, but just listening and allowing their negative emotions take hold of your mind and affect your state of mind is unnecessary and unhealthy.

When people share their problems, worries and stress you don’t have to stay and listen. Find an excuse to leave. You don’t help them when you stay and listen.

5. Leave What You Are Doing and Return to It Later

When something is bothering you, and you cannot find a solution, leave it, do something else, and afterwards return to it. This would clear your mind, calm it down, and then the solution would appear.

6. Don’t Take Things Personally

Don’t take things personally. That’s tough, but that’s one of the most potent ways to protect yourself from anger, rash reactions, and getting hurt. Developing a certain degree of emotional detachment can take you a long way here.

7. Let Go

Let the past belong to the past. You cannot change it.

It’s waste of time mulling and dwelling on past mistakes, bad decisions and unhappy events.

Let them go and stopping allowing them to shape your life and state of mind.

8. Positive Self Talk

Always prefer positive self talk over negative self talk. Self talk is something most people do. Repeating the same thoughts over again, makes them stronger. This gives them the power to shape your life.

This means that you need to be careful with what you repeat in your mind, and prefer positive thoughts rather than negative thoughts.

9. Avoid Arguments

Avoid getting into any kind of argument. It leads nowhere, except to anger, broken relations and unhappiness.

10. Avoid Unhealthy Emotional Attachment

Be careful not to attach yourself emotionally to anything that causes you suffering and unhappiness. This can include people, ideas, habits and activities.

Sometimes, emotional attachment can be toxic and unhealthy.

11. Occupy Your Attention with Something Else

When you feel that negative thinking, worries and doubts begin to fill your mind, try occupying yourself in activities that take your attention somewhere else.

12. Watch Your Thoughts Dispassionately

When you feel that you are emotionally over affected by the environment or by people, try to watch dispassionately your feelings and the thoughts that pass your mind, without getting involved with them.

Try not to follow them or allow and occupy your attention with them. This act would reduce their power over you.

Some examples are, walking, working out, or going to a movie or show.

These are just a few examples of ways to help you protect yourself from negative emotional involvement. There are more ways and techniques, which you can find in the book Emotional Detachment for Happier Life.

How to Create the Best Bedtime Routine

Bedtime Routine

A proper bedtime routine can help one sleep better and feel more relaxed. It helps to unwind after a long day and reset your mind and body for tomorrow.

In this article, you’ll learn how to build your routine and stick to it.

Why Does It Matter?

According to the CDC, one-third of US citizens don’t get enough sleep. A lot of people struggle with falling asleep or waking up.

Probably, everyone had that night when they were lying in bed, unable to stop worrying. Students think, “should I write my paper tomorrow or should I get some help with it” and workers overthink tomorrow’s meetings and upcoming reports.

If it is a one-time thing, there is nothing terrible about it. But lack of sleep on a regular basis can be detrimental to both mental and physical health.

Creating a bedtime routine and sticking to it is one of the most effective ways to increase the quality of your nighttime rest.

Here are some fundamentals you need to know:

  • The body starts preparing for bed a couple of hours before you get there;
  • A routine usually takes 30-60 minutes, but there are no set regulations; you can take as long as you need;
  • A high level of stress can cause sleep anxiety and other issues, so it is crucial to unwind;
  • The human brain loves habits and routines: they help to go into a resting mode quickly and effectively;
  • A good regime helps to align with your circadian rhythms. It also has a good impact on cognitive functioning, memory, and mental health.

Working on your routine is one of those psychological hacks that can help significantly improve well-being. The rule is simple – choose the techniques that work for you and focus on your needs.

Bedtime Routine in Steps

Here are the proven activities that help sleep better. You don’t have to do all of that; select the ones that fit your lifestyle.

Set Schedule

The best way to manage your time is to go to bed and wake up on the same schedule every day. Create a plan that suits your needs and keep it constant. Remember to set the alarm to start the routine.

Take Care of Morning Tasks

To prepare yourself for rest, you can tackle all the things that you often do in the morning. It will take the stress from the mind as you no longer have to think about it. For instance, you can:

  • Prepare lunch;
  • Prepare clothes for the day;
  • Pack a bag for work/college;
  • Wash the dishes;
  • Gather essentials like wallet, keys, or glasses.

Now you can focus on getting ready to relax. And the mornings will also be easier as a lot of deciding is already done.

Avoid Stimulating Activities

Some things stimulate the body and brain to stay awake. It is better to avoid them after a certain time.

For instance, cut your caffeine intake after 4 pm at least. Leave heavy and enduring exercises for mornings and afternoons. And try to avoid alcohol and nicotine at night as they interfere with the sleep cycle.

Set Devices Aside

A lot of people are used to watching a show in bed or checking the feed on a smartphone. But it is an unhealthy habit.

First of all, all the screens emit blue light. This suppresses the melatonin production and makes you stay awake.

Secondly, it is not helping in relaxation. Browsing social media too much can lead to anxiety, stress, and lower self-esteem.

When the alarm for the bedtime routine goes off, set all the devices aside.

Eat Light

If you are hungry, it is better to eat something light and healthy. Trying to sleep while hungry is difficult and harmful to your stomach.

When you feel like you’d eat something – try yogurt, fruits, nuts, or oats. These foods have high melatonin content, which is a great thing.

It is also quite great to have a warm drink. But select tea that has no caffeine in it (or has a low level of it). Or one can try warm milk or cocoa, like in childhood.

Create a Playlist

The majority of people like to listen to music in their routine. It helps reduce stress and decompression. Studies recommend classical music, but one can choose whatever they like as long as it is calming.

If music is not your thing, try white noise, ASMR, and audio aids like color noises (the white or pink ones).

Take a Bath

A warm bath is one of the most effective ways to relax and get ready for bed. A shower can also be a good idea if you do not have time or desire to take a bath.

There is a scientific reason behind it. Naturally, when you are preparing for sleep, and the melatonin level rises, the core body temperature drops. So, when you get out of the warm bath, you mimic that process and set the body on the right path.

Choose Right Lights and Temperature

Your bedroom should be your oasis. Make sure that it is calm and welcoming. Block out the noises, make it pitch dark, or use dimming lights. The most comfortable temperature for a body is about 65 degrees, so adjust your thermostat.

Make Hygiene Your Ritual

Instead of doing it all on autopilot, take a conscious approach to washing up. Complete every ritual with mindfulness, be it cleansing, moisturizing, or brushing teeth.

Good Bedding and Pajamas

Make sure that the fabrics are comfortable and natural. Make sure your bedding is appropriate for a specific season. Try a weighted blanket. It can do charms.

Sleepwear also needs to be comfortable before anything else.

Do Relaxing Activities

Several things will help one to relax faster, namely:

  • Light yoga;
  • Simple stretching;
  • Breathing exercises;
  • Meditation;
  • Foam Rolling.

Try them out and choose what shows the best results.

For some people, writing is one of their favorite steps. One can try gratitude journaling or creating a to-do list for tomorrow. You can let all the worries on the paper or prepare for a new day.

In Summary

A proper bedtime routine can help you sleep better, wake up easier, and feel more content. Choose the steps you like and follow them every day. The power of the habit is what makes it even more effective. And remember to get into a bed only when you are done with everything and ready to sleep.

These 8 Reasons Will Convince You to Self-Publish Your Book

Self-Publish Your Book

Self-publishing or indie publishing is something that poses a dilemma for every new writer these days. Although there are valid reasons to prefer self-publishing to traditional publishing, many aspiring authors are scared to opt for this process.

The main reason behind self-publishing stems from an almost parent-like attachment to your creation.

Traditional publishing will take your manuscript through a seemingly endless journey of proofreading, editing, correction, and omission. And you may not enjoy seeing your first draft bleed like this.

Hence, more writers are encouraged nowadays to self-publish their fiction or nonfiction. In this article, we have listed eight convincing reasons for you to go with self-publishing your book.

8 Reasons Why You Should Self-Publish Your Book

You must explore the modern self-publishing or indie publishing processes before opting for traditional book publishing services. Let’s check below what self-publishing has to offer you:

1. Be the Boss of Your Aspiring Project

You can always have the content and design control of your book by self-publishing. Most traditional publishers will modify, correct, and omit significant parts of your storyline, which may nullify your artistic efforts.

Why hand it over to people who don’t understand your creative ethics? It’s okay to trim down some objectionable portions from your book; however, stripping your fiction of its essence may destroy the whole content.

As a self-publisher, you can keep things in their rightful places, such as characters, dialogue, facts, historical accounts, scientific or technological value, etc. Such control includes the cover design and paper quality too.

2. Publishing Your Book Quickly

It’s a very common scenario for a traditional publisher to take a year or more to publish your first book. Times have changed drastically, and so should your writing exposure.

If you take years to publish your first book with a conventional publisher, the appeal of your content might decline over time. So, it’s a smart move to self-publish your book in hardcover, paperback, or even eBook format in a timely manner.

3. Earn Higher Royalties than Regular Publishing

Publishing your book by yourself won’t keep you within the traditional publisher’s grid, meaning you don’t need to share or sell the copyright to them.

Maintaining the book’s copyright yourself, will enable you to sell and earn more since you’ll keep most of the revenues except tax.

4. Prospect of Foreign Rights and Royalty

Imagine your book has become a bestseller, reaching millions of readers around the globe. At this point, chances are high that foreign publishers will approach you for the right to publish your book in their country. It works like the law of attraction when a fantastic book hits the market.
Depending on the situation, you may be able to publish your book in their country and get the revenue and response equally. The best part is that these foreign earnings aren’t going to be shared with any conventional publisher in your country.

5. Maintain Book Distribution Flexibility

With a traditional publisher, you’re stuck with their regular marketing and distribution channels. Most of them will distribute your books through their own dispatch point and sell to their selected retailers only.

On the flip side, you can make deals with different organizations and channels to promote and sell your books in the market. You can either go with the regular or digital platforms to reach millions of readers of your genre.

6. Get Instant Sales Reports and Analytics

Conventional book publishers still practice generating twice-a-year sales reports. It not only impedes your market analysis but also keeps you unaware of your target readers’ choices and responses.

Market analytics is thriving in all types of businesses, from a sole proprietorship to industrial ranges. Hence, you’d be wise to install or integrate instant market analytics into your self-publishing website.

Doing this will help you get sales reports any time in the week, month, or year along with the real-time market analytics on your published book.

7. Receive Tax Benefits if You Make a Loss

In the USA, you can file a self-employment tax after you’ve made a profit from your self-published books. The self-employed profit tax is 15.3 percent once your profit has crossed $400, whereas it may reach up to 21 percent for corporate taxes.

In this system, even if you face a loss by self-publishing your books, you can adjust the loss with the revenue from other earning sources, such as a job or business.

In short, self-publishing gives you the opportunity to reap the self-employment benefits of federal and government levies.

8. Work at Your Own Pace

Being a self-published author, no one can hold you back or cross your boundaries. It enables you to maintain your regular job or business and writing endeavor simultaneously.

You must be smart, careful, and patient before you can successfully publish your first bestseller. Otherwise, things might get out of your hands before you know it.

Don’t resign from your day job yet. Nurture your written piece, find the best self-publishing channel for you, publish the book, and monitor how it goes.

Self-Publishing vs. Traditional Publishing at a Glance

Both self-publishing and traditional publishing come with their own distinct channels, policies, benefits, and disadvantages.

Let’s find out some of the key differences between self-publishing and traditional publishing below:

Self-Publishing Traditional Publishing
The author owns the copyright to the book and its royalties. The publisher keeps the copyright and shares the royalties with the author.
Self-publishing accelerates the publishing process. Traditional publishing is sluggish compared to self-publishing.
Self-publishing has both local and foreign market exposures. Traditional publishing doesn’t allow an author to change markets unless he/she buys the copyright.
Self-publishing gives a writer more freedom in draft, storyline, design, and promotion. Traditional publishing practices limit freedom on the writer’s end.
Self-publishing allows an author a 15.3 percent tax (including Medicare and Social Security) on their net income. In traditional publishing, the author is supposed to pay 30 percent tax on their profit.

Is It Too Expensive to Self-Publish Your Book?

Self-publishing cost depends on various things, including

  • Proof copy cost
  • First thousand copies cost
  • Print on demand cost
  • Book cover design
  • Book cover production

Costs of different genres vary. For example:

  • Young Adult: $3900 to $4500
  • Thriller, Crime, and Mystery: $4100 to $4300
  • Science Fiction, Utopian, and Fantasy: $4000 to $4400
  • Romance: $3600 to $3900

The above cost ranges are subject to further updates, locations, and book distribution channels. You may want to explore more on this matter.

Final Thoughts

As we’ve reached the end segment, you’ve now read through the biggest self-publishing benefits. If you think these reasons are valid, you may opt for self-publishing your first or next book.

Self-publishing isn’t free, of course, but it gives you the freedom to select your market, target audience, promotional channels, and selling points. Most importantly, you can finish the book on your own deadline.

Moreover, self-publishing your book helps you maintain the pace of your regular job or business. On top of that, it can bring you greater financial freedom and vast recognition.

Astounding Space Quotes and Quotes on the Universe

Space Quotes

Space is vast and endless, with billions of billions of stars and galaxies. Our planet is one of these endless number of stars and planets out there.

One day, though it is still very far away, people will travel to distant worlds. Now, it’s possible only in science fiction books and movies.

We have seen time and again that the imagination precedes every invention. Many things that were fiction in a book or movie have become a reality in our lives.

Space is vast and endless. We might think that we are just a tiny speck in this vast Universe, but we are an inseparable part of it. We are here, on Earth, but with our mind we can reach to the endless frontiers of space.

In our mind and imagination we can reach everywhere.

Science is making leaps in the exploration of space. Man has sent people to the moon, rockets to distant planets in our Solar system, and telescopes that can photograph galaxies many light years from us.

We are fascinated by space and the idea of space travel. Space is a new frontier for mankind, full of adventures, risks, and the unknown.

Nasa, and a few private entrepreneurs in the U.S.A., and space agencies in other countries, are working on means to understand the Universe, stars, planets, galaxies and black holes. They are also working on finding means of space travel.

Meanwhile, until space travel can become reality, here is a collection of space quotes, which I hope you will enjoy reading.

Quotes about Space

“We are part of this universe; we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts, is that the universe is in us.” – Neil deGrasse Tyson

“When you look at the stars and the galaxy, you feel that you are not just from any particular piece of land, but from the solar system.” – Kalpana Chawla

What was most significant about the lunar voyage was not that men set foot on the moon but that they set eye on the earth.” – Norman Cousins

“The universe is a pretty big place. If it’s just us, seems like an awful waste of space.” – Carl Sagan

“The immense distances to the stars and the galaxies mean that we see everything in space in the past–some as they were before the Earth came to be. Telescopes are time machines.” – Carl Sagan

“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” – Neil Armstrong

“The Earth is the cradle of humanity, but mankind cannot stay in the cradle forever.” –Konstantin Tsiolkovsky

“We cannot predict the new forces, powers, and discoveries that will be disclosed to us when we reach the other planets and set up new laboratories in space. They are as much beyond our vision today as fire or electricity would be beyond the imagination of a fish.” – Arthur C. Clarke

“In my studies of astronomy and philosophy I hold this opinion about the universe, that the Sun remains fixed in the centre of the circle of heavenly bodies, without changing its place; and the Earth, turning upon itself, moves round the Sun.” – Galileo Galilei

“Space exploration is a force of nature unto itself that no other force in society can rival.” – Neil deGrasse Tyson

“I don’t think the human race will survive the next thousand years unless we spread into space. There are too many accidents that can befall life on a single planet. But I’m an optimist. We will reach out to the stars.” – Stephen Hawking

“Space is for everybody. It’s not just for a few people in science or math, or for a select group of astronauts. That’s our new frontier out there, and it’s everybody’s business to know about space.” – Christa McAuliffe

Quotes about Space and the Universe

“Man is an artifact designed for space travel. He is not designed to remain in his present biologic state any more than a tadpole is designed to remain a tadpole.” – William Burroughs

“A sense of the unknown has always lured mankind and the greatest of the unknowns of today is outer space. The terrors, the joys and the sense of accomplishment are epitomized in the space program.” – William Shatner

“I think we are at the dawn of a new era in commercial space exploration.” – Elon Musk

“In science fiction, we dream. In order to colonize in space, to rebuild our cities, which are so far out of whack, to tackle any number of problems, we must imagine the future, including the new technologies that are required.” – Ray Bradbury

Space Quotes from Astronauts

“Houston, Tranquillity Base here. The Eagle has landed.” – Neil Armstrong.

“I know the sky is not the limit because there are footprints on the Moon — and I made some of them!” – Buzz Aldrin

“Mars has been flown by, orbited, smacked into, radar examined, and rocketed onto, as well as bounced upon, rolled over, shoveled, drilled into, baked and even blasted. Still to come: Mars being stepped on.” – Buzz Aldrin

“It suddenly struck me that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn’t feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.” – Neil Armstrong

“To some this may look like a sunset. But it’s a new dawn.” – Chris Hadfield

“I find it curious that I never heard any astronaut say that he wanted to go to the Moon so he would be able to look back and see the Earth. We all wanted to see what the Moon looked like close up. Yet, for most of us, the most memorable sight was not of the Moon but of our beautiful blue and white home, moving majestically around the sun, all alone and infinite black space.” – Alan Bean

“What everyone in the astronaut corps shares in common is not gender or ethnic background, but motivation, perseverance, and desire — the desire to participate in a voyage of discovery.” – Ellen Ochoa

“Of course risk is part of spaceflight. We accept some of that to achieve greater goals in exploration and find out more about ourselves and the universe.” – Lisa Nowak

“Mankind is drawn to the heavens for the same reason we were once drawn into unknown lands and across the open sea. We choose to explore space because doing so improves our lives, and lifts our national spirit. So let us continue the journey.” – George W. Bush

Short Quotes about space and Space Travel

“Across the sea of space, the stars are other suns.” – Carl Sagan

“Time is the mind of space.” – Samuel Alexander

“Curiosity is the essence of our existence.” – Gene Cernan

“The world has a beginning, but the universe has no end.” – Matshona Dhliwayo

“Eventually there are going to be cities in space.” – Alan Bean

Outer Space and Inner Space

The outer space is vast, with no end, and science is learning and exploring it.

Outer space is not the only space there is. There is also a vast inner space existing within each one of us. However, only few people dare to travel into this space.

I am not speaking about the imagination, about the subconscious mind, or about thoughts and events that have been repressed into the subconscious mind. This is not the inner space I am referring to.

I am speaking about the inner space of awareness, consciousness, and what people call the soul. This inner space is accessed not by rockets and spaceships, but through meditation, mindfulness and contemplation.

It’s the inner journey inside, with no less adventures than journeys on Earth or to outer space.

The external world is part of this inner world. When thinking about space, always remember that there a vast space outside, and a vast space inside you.
